Rex grabbed the nearest shiny and shoved the kid’s head down as Kix threw
himself over Skywalker. The shell fell short of the crater they’d taken
refuge in, sending bits of shrapnel and the dense, hard clay raining down
on them. Rex folded himself over the kid and waited for it to be over.

“That was closer,” Echo said into the ominous silence that followed an
artillery strike. “The clankers must be recalibrating their systems.”

The Seps’ cannons may be able to tear a chunk out of small planet, but they
couldn’t aim for shit. It was probably the only reason they had managed to
survive in the shell hole as long as they had.
